Chichester Harbour

This was a fantastic opportunity for us to be involved with a very exciting project situated on the water front in Chichester harbour. The area is of great importance to conservation and the local wildlife and the estuary provides stunning views both to the water and the sheltering Sussex downs. Our brief was to design and create a space for the New England style property that would not compete with the surroundings.

We created terraces from sawn stone and a simple curved dry stone wall was created to offer an understated focal point as well as shelter. Granite setts and a stone chipping drive create a generous space for the front of the property while a sweeping lawn and wild flower bank carries the eye out to the water’s edge.

Part of the project included stone rip rap sea defences to replace the decaying concrete and sleeper structure. This work was carried out with the consultation of the local authorities to ensure minimum impact on the local wildlife and this has been a great success.
